From the 6th to the 10th of June this year Dr Clement Kabakama, a Cardiology Fellow and Cardiovascular Disease Researcher, successfully conducted training workshops on the Swahili-translated Community Awareness flipchart.

A total of 32 health professionals, comprising nurses, physicians, medical officers, and a hospital attendant, were trained at the Dareda Mission Hospital and the Health Care Dispensary in Babati, Manyara, Tanzania.
Feedback was resoundingly positive and emphasised the need for such a tool to support the prevention of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease through awareness raising among at-risk communities in the region.

The Community Awareness flipchart training workshop in Babati, Manyara was conducted as a pilot study to create awareness and advocacy throughout the region before commencing the approved Accredited RHD Course Program by the Ministry of Health of Tanzania (MOH) and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
